30 years of crown through fashion and costume

To celebrate the 30th Birthday of Crown Melbourne, Thank You, Baby we were invited to present a 30 year retrospective of Crown’s history through fashion and costume, showcased through their very own lens. Held in the Crown Melbourne Atrium in two Acts, ‘SHOWGIRLS’ featured costumes from the Crown archives and ‘RED CARPET’ featured iconic looks from red carpet events held at Crown.

ACT I - SHOWGIRLS

Thank You, Baby were given the incredible opportunity of total full access to the costume archives. Working in residence at Crown Melbourne, TYBB spent weeks restoring, repairing and reworking Showgirl pieces form the past 30 years back to their original glory.

Assembling a combination of historical pieces with their own custom creations and sparkling styling, 11 Showgirls were presented on a ‘Busby Berkeley’ style tiered gold-mirrored revolving stage.

ACT II - RED CARPET

A reconfigured stage made way for a special presentation of iconic gowns spanning the entire 30-year history of red-carpet events at Crown Melbourne.

From the Cappellazzo ‘poker chip’ gown worn by Ann Peacock at the grand opening of Crown, to the Thank You Baby designed interpretation with a dress made from 315 rhinestoned poker chips to celebrate the birthday. Other designers showcased were J’Aton, Jason Grech and the infamous red dress by Ruth Tarvydas worn by Bec Judd at the 2004 AFL Brownlow.

“Over 30 year’s of glittering days, the artistry and work that Crown gave to so many Melbourne artists and creatives is to be celebrated, right here in the Crown Atrium!

Tyler and Ross of ‘Thank You, Baby’ present a heady mix of baubles, bangles and beads, feathered worldly wonders, and a new reimagined world of entertainment.” - Christian Wagstaff
